On 24 November 2016, the Japan Economic Foundation (JEF) and the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) co-organized Asia-Pacific Forum 2016 (APF2016) entitled“Advancing trade and investment liberalization in the Asia-Pacific” in Hanoi.
APF2016 Forum was co-chaired by Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cung - President of CIEM and Mr. Kazumasa Kusaka, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JEF. Participants in APF2016 included various senior officials, former senior officials, economic experts and scholars from the Asia-Pacific regions and some press and media agencies.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cung said that APF2016 was an opportunity to strengthen exchanges on issues related to trade, regional economic integration and the Asia-Pacific growth strategy for the current period and for the upcoming 5 years. The APF2016 became even more significant in the context that many factors have substantially altered the dynamism and orientationof international economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Kazumasa Kusa - Chairman and CEO of JEF- introduced APF2016 as an annual forum of JEF, which has been conducted since 2003 in Asia. The series of APFs, including APF2015, were aimed towards fostering dialogues among senior officials, former senior officials and experts from the Asia-Pacific region on issues related to trade, regional economic integration and growth strategy.
APF2016 comprised of three main sessions. The first session was chaired by Mr. Naoyuki Haraoka - Executive Managing Director of JEF, and focused on discussing the economic integration roadmap for the Asia-Pacific region. Next, Professor Josef T. Yap - School of Economics, University of Philippines - moderated the second session on “New issues of regional trade and investment liberalization”. In the last session, Dr. Vo Tri Thanh - former Vice President of CIEM –led the discussions on “Linking trade with domestic policy reforms: Building consensus for coherent move toward economic growth”

At the end of the forum, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cung expressed deep gratitude to the speakers for their presentations and active participation. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cung also appreciated the cooperation of Mr. Kazumasa Kusaka and JEF for their cooperation in co-organizing the forum, giving a plarform for economists, experts and scholars from the Asia-Pacific region todiscuss and exchange interested topicsin the context of regional economic integration./.
